Trigger links are one of the most powerful tools in Tekmatix for automating follow-up, tracking engagement, personalizing communication, and managing compliance. When used correctly, they streamline workflows, improve audience segmentation, and enhance user experience across email, SMS, and social messaging.
This guide breaks down how trigger links work, how to apply them in your campaigns, and includes a real-world scenario to help you understand how to implement them effectively.
Trigger links allow you to:
Automate actions based on link clicks
Track user engagement
Dynamically update URLs without editing entire campaigns
Manage opt-outs for multiple communication channels
Personalize marketing campaigns at scale
For agencies and businesses managing large audiences, trigger links provide critical automation that reduces manual work and improves campaign performance.
If you run monthly or seasonal promotions, you can reuse the same email and simply update a Custom Value that the trigger link points to.
How it works:
Create a trigger link. Go to Marketing & Emails and click on Trigger Link at the top. Click +Add Link.

Assign a dynamic URL (your Custom Value)

Place the trigger link inside your email
Update the Custom Value each month to change the URL instantly
Your emails no longer need manual editing. The trigger link always directs contacts to the current promotion.
Trigger links can start or advance workflow steps.
Examples:
Appointment reminders that trigger a survey after the reminder link is clicked
Webinar confirmations that trigger event details
Multi-step onboarding sequences that move forward only when a user clicks a link
Each click becomes an automation event.
Trigger links can manage unsubscribe actions for:
SMS
Google Business Messages
Instagram DMs
This helps ensure compliance with opt-out regulations and allows you to honor communication preferences individually by channel.
Note:
SMS carriers also automatically recognize opt-out keywords such as STOP, STOPALL, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, and CANCEL.
When you set up your API domain within Tekmatix, all trigger links display using your domain. This improves professionalism, trust, and brand consistency.
(As of now, one API domain is shared across all sub-accounts and locations.)
Every trigger link click is logged in a contact’s Activity Timeline.
This lets you:
Review engagement patterns
Measure campaign performance
Segment based on link interactins
Follow up with interested contacts
You can find activity logs under:
Contacts → Smartlist → Select Contact → Activity
Use trigger links to send prospects to:
Product tutorials
Feature walkthroughs
Support articles
Webinars
Setup guides
When contacts click these links, workflows can send additional resources or tag them based on their interests.
For events, trigger links allow you to:
Collect RSVPs
Send event details automatically
Record attendance confirmations
Deliver schedule updates or venue changes
Every click can trigger a follow-up workflow.
Trigger links can direct contacts to personalized product suggestions based on:
Past purchases
Email behavior
Survey responses
Browsing history
Clicks can initiate automation that tailors future recommendations.
When using dynamic URLs, follow this order:
Create the trigger link in Tekmatix.
Assign the dynamic URL (Custom Value) to the trigger link.
Add the trigger link, not the Custom Value itself, to your message.
Important:
Using only the Custom Value in the message body will not trigger the link click event.
Changing a Custom Value does not update URLs in past messages.
You can create workflows with a Wait for Trigger Link Click action.
For example:
Wait for confirmation link click
If clicked, send a survey
If not clicked after a certain time (using timeout), move to a fallback action
This ensures workflows move forward based on engagement.
If timeout is enabled, Tekmatix will skip the wait step and move on after the defined time, even if the link isn’t clicked.
Business: Elevated Wellness Coaching
Goal: Streamline appointment reminders, send follow-up surveys, and promote rotating monthly offers
They created a trigger link called “Monthly Offer” and attached a URL pointing to a Custom Value.
Each month, they only update the Custom Value—no need to rebuild emails or workflows.
They created a workflow that:
Sends appointment reminders
Waits for the “Appointment Confirmed” trigger link click
Sends a survey after the appointment
Sends a review request once the survey link is clicked
This eliminates manual follow-ups.
They set separate trigger links for:
Email unsubscribe
SMS unsubscribe
Instagram DM opt-out
Facebook DM opt-out
This helps them remain compliant and organized.
They review each client’s Activity Timeline to see which resources they clicked:
Nutrition guides
Exercise videos
Habit tracking tools
This helps them personalize coaching sessions.
Engagement increased, manual workload dropped significantly, and clients experienced more personalized, timely communication.
